You are kindly invited to the third One Work Show. OWS is a series of exhibitions featuring single pieces selected from the oeuvre of Jednostka’s artists. Each item on display is unique and has not been shown in the Gallery previously. Every One Work Show offers an opportunity for you to focus on the details of works and the underlying concepts, as well as to learn the stories behind their creation.
The work chosen for the hot midsummer is the famous collage by Weronika Gęsicka “Untitled #5” from the Traces series. Both the work and the cycle have gained worldwide recognition. The collage “Untitled #5”, known from many publications and exhibitions, has not been exhibited in Warsaw to date. Its copies can be found in private and public collections, including that of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in Germany. The Jednostka Gallery will show the last available copy, numbered 5/5.
“Traces” is a series of photomontages based on American stock photographs from the 1950s and 1960s. Family scenes, holiday memories, everyday life – all this is suspended somewhere between truth and fiction. Gęsicka asks questions about memory, relationships, and family bonds, which are so relevant today, when the pandemic has forced us to stay at home.
In 2017, the Jednostka Gallery published the photobook “Traces”, the whole print run of which sold in a flash. The Gallery will offer the last copies of the collector’s editions of the book.
