Exhibition: 17.06–01.08.2021
Place: BWA Olsztyn, aleja Piłsudskiego 38, 11-041 Olsztyn, Poland
The exhibition at the BWA Art Gallery in Olsztyn is an attempt to look at a tyre – an ordinary thing, virtually unnoticed, and yet ingenious. This is a project whose applications and uses go far beyond the manufacturer’s plan.
Our surroundings are full of situations for which the background is a tire – it supports, swings, covers, protects, decorates. It pretends to be something it is not, constantly changing roles. It takes on new shapes, masks its blackness with cheerful colors. Self-made tyre solutions are a symbol of Polish resourcefulness and the subject of countless memes.
At the exhibition in Olsztyn, a town famous for its tyre factory, we will see mainly works by artists who used tyres as a material or made them the subject of their work. The works illustrate the Polish tyre phenomenon and open a field of discussion about its influence on the surrounding reality.
