The newly started PLON Project aims to promote collecting fine art photography. Its’ inaugural exhibition of distinguished Polish artists will open during Muranowska Majówka – a cyclic initiative organised by cultural and artistic places, venues situated in the Warsaw Muranów district. The show will culminate with an auction of all the works on the 6th of June 2023 at 7pm.
First edition of the PLON project is devoted to artist’s physical gesture. The presented works comprise of collages, montages as well as other formats involving direct interference with photography artwork. Most of them are unique objects. There are also publications such as Tango or Fabryka, which are an effect of artists cooperation, or a dummy of Paweł Mystkowski’s book on sport photography.
The curators, Maga Ćwieluch and Katarzyna Sagatowska, have chosen works, which present an exceptionally broad use of the medium of photography by artists from different generations. One of the oldest works is Jerzy Lewczyński’s set from the ‘Wartime Dream Photography’ series, 1941. Whereas the newest are the collages of Jan Dziaczkowski, Rafał Milach and Anna Orłowska. Amongst them – a wide range of other forms of composition. Photomontages of Zofia Rydet – the great master of Polish photography, montages of nudes by Wojciech Plewiński and Paweł Pierściński, a conceptual set of Ryszard Waśko as well as a private gesture of Zygmunt Rytka.
Artworks and art collections are a testimony of the times they were created. Collecting is a notably individual and subjective creative process. It is also an expression of freedom of choice; and a journey off the beaten track and established canons. A good collection does not have to comprise of many objects. One, remarkable artwork could be life changing – by virtue of its’ power and the power of the creator behind it.
