Events and exhibitions of the Festival of Photography “Within Sopot” will take place at the State Gallery of Art in Sopot, COSMA gallery, Goyki 3 Art Incubator and KIT galleries, as well as Sopotka.

We invite you to the 7th edition of the Festival of Photography “In the frames of Sopot”, which will be held from 3 to 19 September 2021. This year, the theme of the main part of the exhibitions we present is “Discomfort”.
For our residency program we invited three artists who use the medium of photography in their projects – Filip Ćwik, Weronika Gęsicka and Elis Hoffman. Independently of each other, they have addressed in their works – on different levels, in their own individual style and format – the theme of contemporary unrest, which in its social, cultural and personal dimensions has even become a fundamental element of our everyday life. Similarly to Sebastian Rogowski’s and Martina Hoogland Ivanov’s individual exhibitions presented at the festival, they have been a comment on the extremely uncertain and changeable interpersonal relations of today, difficulties in forming a uniform and stable attitude to the reality, as well as an ever growing inner sense of fear and doubts concerning the essence of personal functioning in the world and the problem of autonomy.
Paradoxically, despite our instinctive attempts to avoid it, the feeling of increasingly intense discomfort may be the only catalyst and starting point for making changes, for evolving our thinking about reality, for releasing the need to think creatively about the future.
This year’s FFWRS will also feature a group exhibition of international artists – Violeta Bubelyte, Błażej Pindor, Diana Tamane, Artur Żmijewski – entitled “Smugglers of Flowers”, curated by Adam Mazur, as well as a post-exhibition of students of the Film School in Łódź / PWSFTviT led by Prof. Janusz Tylman and Hubert Humka, and a group exhibition of the most interesting photographic works prepared by students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.
Moreover, it will be possible to participate in many events connected with photography, meetings with artists as well as to see an exhibition of photography books prepared by Paweł Klein.
