The Rafał Milach exhibition at Warsaw’s Galeria Studio can be seen as a double narrative. On one level, Milach describes and arranges visual manifestations of the public protests in Poland since 2016; on another level, he reflects on his own participation as a grassroots activist. Rafał Milach (1978) is a photographer and visual artist. He is a co-founder and member of the collective Sputnik Photos. In 2018 he was shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize and became a Magnum Photos Nominee Member. He won the first prize in the World Press Photo competition (2008). He had solo shows at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art and the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, at Atlas Sztuki in Łódź, and at the Photographers’ Gallery in London. His projects feel the pulse of contemporary society. They include The Winners, 7 Rooms, Refusal.
The exhibition will see the launch of the internet platform Archive of Public Protests. This project, initiated by Milach, assembles photographs taken at demonstrations and protests by Agata Kubis, Chris Niedenthal, Wojciech Radwański, Paweł Starzec, Adam Lach and Rafał Milach. We also show collaborative works by Milach and Karolina Gembara as well as Maciej Pisuk.
